September 16, 2024 declared legal holiday in the Philippines 


Monday, September 16, 2024, has been designated as a Muslim legal holiday for Mauludin Nabi (the birthday of Prophet Muhammad), as announced by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) Regional Office-9.

According to a memorandum from Regional Director Dr. Zulfikar Abantas, this declaration is by Presidential Decree No. 1083, also known as the Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines.

This law stipulates that Muslim holidays are officially observed in the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay, as well as in the cities of Cotabato, Iligan, Marawi, Pagadian, and Zamboanga.

MEMORANDUM

TO ALL CONCERNED

SUBJECT : OBSERVANCE OF MUSLIM LEGAL HOLIDAY (1446 HIJRAH MAULIDIN NABI)

DATE : SEPTEMBER 5, 2024

Pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 1083 otherwise known as Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines, MAULIDIN NABI is a recognized Muslim Legal Holiday. It falls on SEPTEMBER 16, 2024 (MONDAY) which corresponds to the 12th day of Rabbi'ul Awwal 1446H.

Under Art. 170. Provinces and cities where officially observed. (1) Muslim Holidays shall be officially observed in the provinces of Basilan, Lanao Del Norte, Lanao Del Sur, Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Zamboanga Del Norte and Zamboanga Del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and in the cities of Cotabato, Iligan, Marawi, Pagadian, and Zamboanga and in such other Muslim Provinces and Cities as may hereafter be created. (2) Upon proclamation by the President of the Philippines. Muslim Holidays may also be officially observed in other provinces and cities.

Under Art. 172. Observance by Muslim employees. (1) All Muslim government officials and employees in places other than enumerated under Article 170 shall also be excused from reporting to office in order that they may be able to observe Muslim holidays. (2) The President of the Philippines may, by proclamation, require private offices, agencies or establishment to excuse their Muslim employees from reporting for work during a Muslim holiday without reduction in their usual compensation.
