Marcos directs schools to open on July 29, allows outdoor classes if necessary

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urges schools to start classes on Monday, July 29, "as much as possible, if their school buildings are in a condition to hold classes. He also suggests that schools conduct classes outside of school buildings if necessary.

On the other hand, the Department of Education (DepED) Secretary Sonny Angara said several schools might delay the school opening on July 29 due to the severe impact of typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon.

"Hindi namin pipilitin yung mga nasalanta talaga at mahihirapan sa school opening ng Lunes," said Secretary Sonny Angara.

According to data from the DepED, 738 schools across four regions will not start classes on July 29, 2024.
