DepEd: Teachers who violate 'bare walls policy' could face sanctions
Will the DepEd impose sanctions on teachers who violate its bare walls policy?
The Department of Education (DepEd) is considering imposing sanctions on teachers who do not adhere to the "bare walls" policy. This policy was initiated by Vice-President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte, directing public schools to remove visual aids, pictures of national heroes, and even images of past and present presidents from classroom walls.
DepEd spokesman Michael Wesley Poa stated that they have not yet received any reports of teachers violating this order.
"Nag comply naman ang mga teachers. Kung hindi sumunod siyempre po we can always say it is a violation of our rules. Hindi naman tayo naghahanap talaga to penalize our teachers," said Poa in an interview.
Poa emphasized that while they don't actively seek to penalize teachers, those who don't comply could be seen as violating the department's rules.
Any non-compliance will be analyzed on a case-by-case basis, and discussions with the school head will be initiated to understand the situation.
"Kung merong hindi sumunod, we will analyze it on a case to case basis and maybe speak with the school head kung anong nangyari pero hindi naman tayo agad agaran magpapataw," Poa said.
"Kung meron hindi sumunod, we will find out first before natin kasuhan ang teacher," he added.

Poa also mentioned that visual aids can still be utilized, but only during the lesson time.
