Marikina City to host Palarong Pambansa 2020 as OcciMin recedes

Marikina City will serve as the host of the 2020 Palarong Pambansa in place of the original host Occidental Mindoro, according to a memorandum released by the Department of Education (DepEd).

In an unnumbered memorandum issued by DepEd Undersecretary Atty. Revsee Escobedo, Palarong Pambansa Secretary General, Marikina City will serve as the events' host in place of the original host Occidental Mindoro.

"It is unlikely that the 2020 Palarong Pambansa will continue to be held in Occidental Mindoro, due to the damage left by Typhoon "Tisoy" in November," said PIA report.

This will be the first time for Marikina City and fifth time for the National Capital Region (NCR) to host Palarong Pambansa.

The Palarong Pambansa is a yearly multi-sport event involving student-athletes from the different regions of the Philippines.

This sports event, started in 1948, is organized and governed by the Department of Education.
