Government workers to get P1,100 salary increase next year

Government workers will get a salary increase of at least P1,100 next year, acting Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado assured during a budget hearing last night.

Avisado gave the assurance in response to questions asked by Ferdinand Gaite, Bayan Muna Representative, who heads the confederation of state workers.

The representative asked how much rank-and-file personnel would be receiving, citing the case of the lowest-paid employee holding Salary Grade 1 who receives about P11,000 in basic monthly salary.

“It will be 10 percent of his salary,” Avisado answered. “That means this employee will get P1,100 pay increase,” Gaite followed up, to which Avisado agreed.

Based on a 10-percent increase, the basic pay of the lowest paid public school teachers who hold Salary Grade 11, which pays P20,754 a month, would go up by P2,075.

The new bill that contains the proposed Salary Standardization Law (SSL) 5 that is expected to raise civilian government workers’ salary again for next year will be submitted to the Lower House this September according to Acting Budget Secretary Wendel E. Avisado on Thursday.

Avisado said that the lowest salary grade was expected to enjoy a 10-percent increase in pay under the proposal. Under the proposed salary law, civilian government employees will enjoy a yearly salary increase until 2020, the end of the term of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Avisado earlier said the funds for the next round of Salary Standization Law (SSL) were already contained in the proposed 2019 national budget amounting to P4.1-trillion which was already submitted to Congress.
