DepEd plans to hire 7,062 school-based asmin support staff

To support teachers and align with President Marcos Jr.'s administration goals, the Department of Education (DepEd) plans to hire and renew 7,062 school-based Administrative Support Staff across public schools nationwide, with the basic educational requirement being a Senior High School diploma. This initiative aims to free teachers from non-teaching tasks, allowing them to focus on lesson preparation and student engagement.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized that teachers belong in the classroom, not doing paperwork. These new personnel will handle clerical and administrative duties, directly supporting school heads. This move is in line with DepEd Orders 002 and 005, series of 2024, which mandate the removal of administrative tasks from teachers and rationalize their workload.

DepEd has allocated additional Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) funds to cover the salaries of these staff members, which will be based on the regional minimum wage plus a 12.5% premium. The support staff will assist with various school operations, including report preparation and coordinating school activities.

Applicants need a Senior High School diploma and basic administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office. No prior work experience is required. Current Contract of Service (CoS) personnel can be renewed if they meet performance expectations, while new hires will go through a selection process.

Secretary Angara reiterated DepEd's commitment to improving teachers' working conditions and ensuring efficient school operations by relieving them of administrative burdens.
