Nationwide transport strike set for Monday, Sept. 30

The nationwide transportation strike scheduled on Monday, September 30 to protest the government's Public utility Vehicle (PUV) modernization program will push through despite the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)’s appeal, said major transportation groups. Reports said that some of the major groups involved are Stop and Go Coalition, the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (PISTON) and Alliance of Concert Transport Organization (ACTO).


“Tuloy na po ito, wala na pong atrasan, bumagyo, lumindol o ano pa man. Ang nationwide transport strike sa Lunes ay kasadong kasado na po, hanggang sa probinsya ang lahat po ay nakalarga na at handa na,” Dindo Rosales of Alyansa Kontra PUV phaseout said in a press conference.

Jun Magno from Stop and Go Coalition called on President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to hear their demands and scrap the planned modernization program of old PUVs .

“Ito po ay hindi para pahirapan ang mamamayan. Kami po ay humihingi ng panmanhin sa ating mamamayan, kailangan lang po naming gawin ito para makarating sa ating Pangulo,” said Magno.

Several schools suspended classes on Monday following a transport strike by jeepney operators protesting the government's Public utility Vehicle (PUV) modernization program or planned phaseout of their vehicles.
