PRC extends acceptance of CPD Undertaking for PIC renewal until December 31, 2025
The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) has announced the extension of the acceptance of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Undertaking for the renewal of the Professional Identification Card (PIC) until December 31, 2025.
In its latest advisory, the Commission explained that the extension is necessary to ensure a smooth transition toward updated regulatory standards.
According to the PRC, the extension aims to "give sufficient time for the conduct of orientations and capacity building on the proposed revised guidelines for the recognition, validation, and accreditation (RVA) of learning outcomes (LOs)."
These revised guidelines specifically target learning gained through non-traditional means, including:
• Self-directed Learning (SDL)
• Professional Work Experience (PWE)
• Informal Learning (IL)
Furthermore, the Commission cited the "needed enhancement of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Accreditation System" as a primary reason for pushing the deadline to the end of 2025.
This directive allows registered professionals who have not yet met the required CPD credit units to renew their Professional Identification Cards by executing an "Undertaking." By signing this, professionals agree to complete the remaining unit requirements within the next validity cycle, thereby preventing any disruption to their professional practice.
However, with the deadline now set for the end of the year, professionals are urged to utilize this period not only to renew their licenses but also to familiarize themselves with the upcoming guidelines on SDL, PWE, and Informal Learning, which provide alternative pathways to earning credit units.
For concerns or clarifications regarding the undertaking or the new guidelines, professionals may contact the Continuing Professional Development Division at cpdd@prc.gov.ph.
