DepEd sets 30-day straight break for teachers this school year

The Department of Education (DepEd) recently announced that teachers will be granted a continuous 30-day break without any volunteer work for the School Year 2023-2024. This move is a step towards prioritizing the well-being and productivity of teachers.

Teachers can recharge and focus on their personal lives by giving them an entire month of rest without any DepEd-related activities that require volunteer work. This can lead to a more productive and motivated workforce in the long run. One of the main concerns with this decision is how it will impact the academic calendar. With a month-long break for teachers, the DepEd will have to adjust the academic calendar to ensure that learning is not compromised. However, the DepEd has already stated that the end-of-school-year (EOSY) rites have been incorporated into the official school calendar, and all activities that involve voluntary participation will be scheduled after this 30-day break.

"We made sure that in this year's school calendar, teachers will have 30 straight days of rest during the break without any DepEd activity that requires volunteer work," Duterte said.

"All activities with voluntary participation are scheduled after the said 30-day break," she added.

This means the academic calendar will not be affected, and students' learning will not be compromised. Another issue that the DepEd is addressing is the financial challenges teachers face. The DepEd is collaborating with various government agencies, including the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), the Civil Service Commission, and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), to address issues related to loans, administrative tasks, and teacher training. This will enable teachers to focus solely on students' learning without being bogged down by administrative duties. The DepEd can consider providing financial support to teachers needing it during this 30-day break. The DepEd's decision to give the teachers a 30-day break without any DepEd-related activities that require volunteer work is a step in the right direction. It prioritizes the well-being and productivity of teachers, leading to a more motivated and productive workforce. The DepEd's efforts to address financial challenges teachers face are also commendable, and they can consider providing additional financial support to teachers who may need it during this 30-day break. By supporting and investing in teachers, the DepEd is ultimately investing in the future of our students and our country.
