DepEd considering changes in grading system

The Department of Education (DepEd) is considering making revisions to the grading and recognition system in the Philippines as part of its ongoing review of the basic education system.

DepEd Assistant Secretary Francis Cesar Bringas mentioned that with the planned curriculum revision for the 2024-2025 school year, there might also be changes to classroom assessment policies, including the grading system and awards recognition.

While specific details of the potential changes have not been disclosed, the focus will remain on providing equal opportunities for acknowledging individual achievements rather than fostering student competition.

Notably, the previous quarterly top 10 rankings were eliminated with the introduction of the K-12 program in 2016, and students were instead given academic excellence awards based on their average grades, categorized as with highest honors (98 to 100), with high honors (95-97), and with honors (90-94).
