DepEd finishes K-10 review, new curriculum launching in few weeks

The Department of Education (DepEd) has finished its curriculum assessment for Kinder to Grade 10 (K-10) and plans to launch the updated version in a few weeks. The implementation of the new curriculum is scheduled for the school year 2024-2025, according to DepEd Usec. Michael Poa's announcement during a Palace briefing on Tuesday.

One of the key findings from the feedback received by the department is that the current K-10 curriculum is congested, making it challenging for learners to grasp the subjects thoroughly. The revised curriculum aims to streamline the educational process to address this issue and enhance the country's primary education quality.

Under the new curriculum, more time will be allocated to core subjects such as math, science, English, reading, and values formation. These changes are intended to decongest the curriculum and provide students with a stronger foundation in essential areas of learning.

The DepEd made the draft curriculum available for public review in May and received numerous comments from experts, educators, and the general public.

Regarding the K-12 program, the DepEd continues to conduct a review to ensure that senior high school graduates will be well-prepared and marketable for employment opportunities.

• The revised curriculum will be released in a few weeks and to be implemented in the school year 2024-2025.

• The revised curriculum will decongest the educational process and focus on the fundamentals.
