DepEd to study modification of academic break

The Department of Education (DepEd) plans to study the possibility of modifying the current academic break schedule.

The DepEd has expressed its openness to discussing the possibility of reverting students' summer break from the current schedule of July to August back to its traditional period of April to May.

DepEd Chief of Staff and spokesman Michael Wesley Poa stated they are aware of suggestions for resuming the April to May vacation. Still, they will thoroughly study the proposal before making any decisions.

Poa mentioned that some sectors previously proposed to move the two-month break to July and August, which is during the typhoon season. The DepEd will form a group to study the proposal.

This move comes after some students experienced heat exhaustion from participating in earthquake and fire drills due to the increased temperature.

Additionally, the department is working on resolving the issues of non-financial benefits for public school teachers, such as providing free legal aid and creating improved loan packages through the Government Service Insurance System.

Poa stated that the discussions are ongoing, and they will determine what they can offer within their budget.
