No money should be collected from parents, stakeholders during Brigada

The Department of Education (DepEd) reminded school heads on Monday that during the implementation of this year's Brigada Eskwela, no money should be collected from parents or stakeholders.

DepEd released the statement in response to a Facebook post saying that the Brigada Eskwela becomes a season when teachers transform into “professional beggars" and claims that many teachers are soliciting to buy supplies like paint to fix classrooms before the resumption of regular classes in August 22.

School heads are reminded that in the implementation of 2022 Brigada Eskwela, no fee shall be collected from parents or guardians or solicited from other volunteers and stakeholders, based on DepEd Order No. 062, s. 2022," said DepEd in a statement.

DepEd said that Brigada Eskwela would address the learning resource gaps for teachers and students by strengthening partnerships at the local and national levels.

A DepEd official also reminded that "Brigada Eskwela is volunteerism, not a season for solicitation. It is based on the bayanihan spirit, not a contest. Let volunteers come and allow them to contribute based on their capacity and willingness."
