DBM assures salary increase for public school teachers starting January 2020

Here's the latest status update on Salary Increase for government personnel, particularly for public school teachers.

Based on the report on the ongoing dialogue between the DBM and the Alliance of Concerned Teachers as posted in Manila Public School Teachers Association - MPSTA ACT NCR UNION Facebook post, dated November 30, 2019, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has assured the teachers that there will be a salary increase this coming January 2020. 


"Nakapagpasa na ng salary schedule ang DBM sa kongreso at senado na ang laman ay ang P31B pa rin, hindi pa ito na-adjust sa Senate-approved budget for salary na P63B. Ngunit sinigurado nila na mayroong salary increase sa darating na Enero 2020," said post.

According to the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), the allotted P63B budget for pay hike could provide a monthly salary increase of less than P 3,000 if divided equally among the more than 1.5 million government workers.

Senate approves 2020 budget, doubles fund for salary increase in final reading

The Senate passed the 2020 budget, which included doubling the funds that the House of Representatives had allotted for the salary increase of government workers, a P32-billion increase for the Salary Standardization Law V.

According to group of teachers, senate increasing the allocation for salary increase is a good start for the fulfillment of teachers' demand for P30,000 base pay.

France Castro, ACT Teachers Representative welcomed the move of the Senate to double the funds allocated to government workers pay for 2020.
