Senate approves 2020 budget, doubles fund for salary increase in final reading

Senate has anonymously approved, voting 22-0, the proposed ₱4.1-trillion national budget for FY 2020 on third and final reading, Wednesday, 27 November 2019.


According to the office Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angarathe, Senate Finance committee chair, one of the amendments made by senators to the budget is a ₱32-billion increase for the Salary Standardization Law V and a ₱3.173-billion budget for government nurses to have a salary increase of more than ₱9,000 per month.

According to group of teachers, senate invreasing the allocation for salary increase is a good start for the fulfillment of teachers' demand for P30,000 base pay.

The Department of Educations's (DepEd) Last Mile Schools program received P6 billion, while the State Universiteies and Colleges (SUCs) got a P1.158-billion increase. Also in the budget is the fund for the repair and electrification of schools.
