Weather Update: Pilandok Intensifies into a Tropical Storm

The state weather bureau (PAGASA) reported that Tropical Storm Pilandok has intensified while remaining nearly stationary over the northern Philippine Sea.

Storm Status and Track: Pilandok was tracked approximately 1,060 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h and gustiness of up to 80 km/h. It remains far from the Philippine landmass and is not projected to make landfall.

PAR Exit Timeline: PAGASA forecasts that Pilandok will maintain its strength before finally exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Wednesday evening, September 2, or early Thursday morning, heading toward Japan.

Persistent Habagat Rains: Even as Pilandok prepares to leave the PAR, its extensive circulation continues to heavily enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat). Light to moderate with occasional heavy rains will continue to affect parts of Northern and Central Luzon, as well as Western Visayas.

Coastal Conditions: Gale warnings remain active over the seaboards of Northern Luzon. Sea travel remains risky for small seacraft and unpowered water vessels due to rough coastal conditions.
