Nationwide Simultaneous School Safety Drill Materials & Downloads
In response to growing concerns over campus safety following the recent tragic school shootings in Tacloban and Zamboanga City, the Department of Education (DepEd) has ordered all public and private elementary and secondary schools to participate in the Nationwide Simultaneous School Safety Drill for Active Attack Incidents.
As per the DepEd Memorandum dated August 12, 2026, the nationwide exercise will take place on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at exactly 9:00 A.M. This initiative, developed in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), shifts the focus beyond the traditional earthquake drills to equip school personnel and learners against human-induced threats.
Key Focus: The Reunification Stage
DepEd Undersecretary Malcolm Garma highlighted that one of the most critical components of this drill is the "reunification stage." Lessons learned from recent incidents revealed that post-incident scenarios become highly chaotic when parents and students do not know where to go. The August 25 drill will test local protocols for safely gathering students, parents, medical responders, and police in designated off-site or secure reunification areas.
Preparatory Requirements for Schools
Prior to the August 25 drill, schools are required to review and update their localized School Contingency Plan for Active Attack Incidents. These plans must be shared and approved by their respective Local Government Units (LGUs), local PNP, and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs).
According to the directives, school preparations must also include:
- Installing double-locking mechanisms and other classroom security measures.
- Designating safe rooms, emergency evacuation routes, and communication procedures.
- Establishing secure family reunification areas.
- Posting Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials across the campus.
Note: DepEd emphasizes that all simulation activities must be age-appropriate and trauma-informed, prioritizing the psychological well-being of the learners. Schools that have already conducted a similar drill prior to August 25 are not required to repeat the activity, provided they submit the required documentation.
Post-Drill Reporting & Validation
Following the drill, all School Heads and School DRRM Coordinators must accomplish the Online Reporting Form. The required submissions include:
- The accomplished Drill Evaluation Form.
- Means of Verification (MOVs), including photo and video documentation of the drill.
- The school's updated Contingency Plan for Active Attack Incidents.
