DepEd extends first classroom observation deadline for SY 2025-2026

DepEd extends first classroom observation deadline for SY 2025-2026

Tired of the pressure to complete your Classroom Observation (CO) right before the end of the quarter? Take a deep breath! The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued a memorandum providing flexibility in the timeline and schedule of classroom observations for School Year (SY) 2025-2026.

The deadline for your First Full-Period Classroom Observation has been extended!

The Great News: No Need to Rush This Quarter!
The DepEd Memorandum, which supplements and clarifies DM No. 089, s. 2025, acknowledges the time crunch many teachers face. The original deadline for the First CO often coincided with the busy end of the Second Quarter.

Here is the good news you’ve been waiting for:

The conduct of the First Full-Period Classroom Observation can now be conducted up to the Third Quarter of SY 2025-2026!

This means you and your observer now have more time to schedule this essential activity, alleviating the pressure to rush the observation before the end of Quarter 2.

New Timeline for SY 2025-2026 Classroom Observations:

Based on the new timeline provided in the DepEd Memorandum, the 1st Full-Period Classroom Observation (CO) for School Year (SY) 2025-2026 can now be conducted over an extended period. While it covers observations done during the 1st or 2nd Quarter (both before and after the issuance of DM 089, s. 2025), the schedule is now flexible and allows for the observation to be conducted up to the 3rd Quarter of SY 2025-2026.

The 2nd Full-Period CO maintains its schedule and must be conducted later in the school year, specifically during the 3rd or 4th Quarter of SY 2025-2026. This revised schedule provides teachers and observers more time to complete the initial classroom observation.

What Else Does the Memo Cover?

The memorandum also provides important clarifications regarding the validity of previous observations and the flexibility of Classroom Observable Indicators (COIs).

✅ Observations Already Completed are Valid

If you had a classroom observation conducted during the First and Second Quarters prior to the issuance of DM No. 89, s. 2025, it will be considered your First Full-Period Classroom Observation, provided:

* The observation was for a full-period session.
* The Observation Notes Form was duly accomplished and signed by both the observer and the teacher.

Flexibility on COIs
The memo offers flexibility on the demonstration of certain indicators:

* COIs not demonstrated in the first full-period observation (prior to DM No. 89, s. 2025) may be re-demonstrated in the Third or Fourth Quarters.
* COIs already demonstrated in the first full-period observation are NOT required to be re-demonstrated in the second full-period classroom observation.
* However, indicators 1.1.2, 1.4.2, and 1.5.2 (as scheduled in both the first and second observations) are non-negotiable and must be demonstrated in both classroom observation periods.

⏰ Timeliness Measure
For SY 2025-2026, the timeliness measure for the COIs shall not be included as a performance measure and, therefore, need not be rated. Another pressure point has been removed!

What You Need to Do Next
This directive, issued on October 09, 2025 (and taking immediate effect upon its issuance), is a timely relief for many.

Action Step: Coordinate with your observer and school head to discuss the new, more flexible schedule for your First CO. This is a perfect opportunity to prepare a high-quality lesson without the stress of an immediate deadline.
