DepEd’s PBB 2023 Update: DBM accepts appeal, final decision pending
The Department of Education (DepEd) has renewed optimism for securing the Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) for 2023 after the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) initially accepted its appeal for revalidation and reconsideration.
Last month, DepEd faced a setback when it was declared ineligible for the PBB 2023 due to unmet performance targets. However, through the efforts of Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, DepEd challenged the decision, submitting justifications for reconsideration. The DBM’s Budget and Management Bureau F (BMBF), tasked with reviewing the appeal, issued a positive recommendation, stating, “Reasons for the non-accomplishment of targets have been justified,” after thoroughly evaluating DepEd’s explanations.
The next steps now rest with the Executive Order 61 Technical Working Group (EO 61 TWG), headed by the DBM, which holds the final authority to accept or reject BMBF’s positive recommendation. If the TWG approves, DepEd will be deemed eligible for PBB 2023, allowing its personnel to receive the much-awaited bonus.
The PBB is a government incentive program that rewards employees of agencies meeting specific performance targets, aimed at enhancing efficiency and accountability in public service.
