Work, classes in Luzon suspended due to Tropical Storm "Kristine

In response to the severe weather conditions brought about by Tropical Storm "Kristine," which has been affecting various parts of the country, especially the Island of Luzon, the Office of the Executive Secretary has announced the suspension of work in government offices and classes at all educational levels throughout Luzon for Wednesday, 23 October 2024.

The decision comes as Tropical Storm "Kristine" continues to bring heavy rains and strong winds, posing risks of flooding, landslides, and other hazards. This measure aims to ensure the safety of citizens, including students and government employees, as adverse weather conditions are expected to persist.

Despite the general suspension, the government has clarified that certain essential services will remain operational. Agencies tasked with delivering basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and other vital functions will continue their operations. This includes emergency services, healthcare providers, disaster management teams, and agencies responsible for maintaining critical infrastructure. These teams will remain on duty to provide the necessary support and assistance during the storm.

As for the private sector, the suspension of work in companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective management. Business leaders are advised to monitor weather updates and assess the situation, prioritizing the safety of their employees when making their decisions.

The public is urged to stay updated on weather advisories from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities. People living in low-lying and flood-prone areas are advised to be vigilant and prepare for possible evacuations if the situation worsens.

Authorities assure that they are monitoring the situation closely and are ready to respond to any emergencies that may arise due to Tropical Storm "Kristine."

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
In view of the inclement weather brought about by Tropical Storm “Kristine” affecting the whole country, particularly the Island of Luzon, work in government offices and classes at all levels in Luzon are hereby suspended on 23 October 2024.

However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services.

The suspension of work for private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads.
