BIR introduces Digital TIN ID System

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has launched a digital version of the taxpayer identification number (TIN) ID, a move aimed at simplifying obtaining a TIN. This initiative is a part of BIR's Online Registration and Update System (ORUS), enabling individuals to acquire or update their TIN information more conveniently.

Accessible through orus.bir.gov.ph, the system guides users through a straightforward process of entering required information. Notable features of the Digital TIN ID include:

- Functioning as a TIN reference and a valid ID recognized by various entities, including government agencies, banks, and employers. Its authenticity can be verified online via a QR Code on the ORUS system.
- The Digital TIN ID, distinct from physical TIN cards, does not require a signature and can be authenticated online through a QR code scan.
- Existing TIN holders can apply for this digital version through ORUS, necessitating account enrollment.
- Regarded as a permanent identification document, the Digital TIN ID coexists with the physical TIN card. Holders of the digital version are not required to obtain a physical card.

The Digital TIN ID applicants must update their email address at their respective Revenue District Office (RDO) by submitting Form S1905 – Registration Update Sheet. This can be done via email or through BIR's eServices portal. The system also mandates uploading clear and recent photographs for accurate identification.

The BIR emphasizes that the Digital TIN ID is free and warns against online sellers offering TIN ID assistance, as these may result in fraudulent TINs. BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. highlights that this new system will combat the practice of fixers and online scams, offering a more convenient and secure way for taxpayers to obtain their TIN.
