DepEd prohibits LAC Sessions during Christmas Break

In a recent memorandum, the Department of Education (DepEd) has announced the prohibition of conducting Learning Action Cell (LAC) sessions for public schools during the upcoming holiday season - the memorandum issued by Atty. Revsee A. Escobedo, Undersecretary for Operations, and Francis Cesar B. Bringas, Assistant Secretary for Operations, addressed to all regional directors, school division superintendents, public school heads, and other concerned parties.

Dated December 11, 2023, the memorandum (OASOPS No. 2023-245) clarifies the department's position in response to various inquiries and reports regarding the scheduling of LAC sessions during the Christmas break, which spans from December 18, 2023, to January 2, 2024.

Highlighting the need to respect the holiday season and acknowledging the importance of Christmas-related activities, the DepEd has directed that LAC sessions, regardless of the modality, should not be scheduled during the Christmas break in any public school. This decision marks a shift in policy that allows teachers and educational staff to participate fully in festive activities without the pressure of professional commitments.

The memorandum emphasizes the need for strict compliance with this directive, ensuring that educators nationwide can enjoy a well-deserved break and engage in personal and familial festivities. This move has been welcomed by teachers and education advocates, who see it as a positive step towards maintaining a healthy work-life balance during the holiday season.

The Learning Action Cell is a key component of the Philippine public education system, designed to foster continuous professional development among teachers. However, with this recent directive, the DepEd demonstrates its commitment to the welfare and morale of its educators, recognizing the significance of the yuletide season in Filipino culture.

As schools and educational institutions prepare for the holiday season, this directive is expected to bring relief and joy to the teaching community, allowing them to celebrate the festive period with their loved ones without the added burden of professional obligations.

Educators and concerned parties are advised to refer to the DepEd issuances for further details and updates.
