Implementation of 2-week midyear bridging of learning gaps starting March 1

The Department of Education (DepEd) Regional Office 10 released Regional Memorandum (RM) No. 74 S. 2021 titled MIDYEAR BRIDGING OF LEARNING GAPS IN THE NEW LEARNING LANDSCAPE on February 19 and was published in its official DepEd Regional website.

The RM stated that there will be two weeks of bridging activities on learning gaps and one week of midyear in-service training (INSET) to be implemented in the field. These activities will address teaching-learning gaps of the previous quarters, hence preparing the teachers and learners better for the third quarter.

"With tentative rescheduling of the opening of Quarter 3 from March 1 to March 22, there will be two weeks of bridging activities on learning gaps and one week of midyear in-service training (INSET) to be implemented in the field. These activities will address teaching-learning gaps of the previous quarters, hence preparing the teachers and learners better for the third quarter," the memo stated.

The RM also stated that "the bridging activities are meant for learners who have grades with qualitative descriptions of fairly satisfactory (75-79) and did not meet expectations (74 and below)."

Meanwhile, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) also released Regional Memorandum dated February 26 titled Contingency Measures to Ensure Uninterrupted Distance Learning Delivery for Quarter 3 of School Year 2020-2021.

The RM issued by CAR reiterated the continuity of learning for the first two weeks of March 2021, guided by the provisions of DepEd's Academic Ease.

MIDYEAR BRIDGING OF LEARNING GAPS IN THE NEW LEARNING LANDSCAPE


To: Schools Division Superintendents
All Others Concerned

1. Regarding DepEd Memorandum OUCI-2020-307 on "Suggested Measures to Foster Academic Ease during the Covid-19 Pandemic," dated October 30, 2020, the Office of the Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio highlighted the flexibility in the teaching learning process and making of necessary adjustments throughout the school year.

2. With tentative rescheduling of the opening of Quarter 3 from March 1 to March 22, there will be two weeks of bridging activities on learning gaps and one week of midyear in-service training (INSET) to be implemented in the field. These activities will address teaching-learning gaps of the previous quarters, hence preparing the teachers and learners better for the third quarter.

3. The bridging activities are meant for learners who have grades with qualitative descriptions of fairly satisfactory (75-79) and did not meet expectations (74 and below).

The following measures are highly suggested:
a. Remedial learning activities to cover the least mastered competencies;
b. Follow-up activities (i.e. home visitation to complete missed-out SLMs and other learning tasks;
c. Support activities for learners to prepare their portfolios;
d. Communication activities to parents and learners to provide feedback on assessment results and guidance for improvement;
d. Psychosocial and wellness activities for learners using the Nestle Wellness Modules (You may open this http://bit.ly/WellnessModules2020);
e. Development and reproduction activities of learning activity sheets for the bridging of learning gaps and for the first three weeks of Quarter 3 for Grade 4 to senior high school levels;
f. Interactive activities on online quizzes for the purpose of raising awareness of issues on online sexual abuse of children (OSAEC), online safety, and positive discipline. Links are presented in Attachment No. 1.

4. Likewise, enrichment activities may be made available for the rest of the learners who have satisfactory and above qualitative ratings.

5. In the midyear INSET, the following activities are highly suggested:
a. Rollout trainings and/or learning action cell (LAC) sessions;
b. Adjustment of grades based on the output of remedial learning activities and completion of SLMs and other learning tasks;
c. Online encoding of learners' achievement in the Regional Curriculum Management and Support System (CMSS); and
d. Support to mental health and wellness activities for teachers using the Nestle Wellness Modules (Specific links and instruction will be provided in a separate advisory).

6. All Schools Division Offices (SDOs) are required to submit a general plan of activities. Suggested template is found in Attachment No. 2.

7. Field monitoring by education program supervisors (EPSS) and public schools district supervisors (PSDSs) shall be coordinated to ensure the implementation of these activities. A narrative report shall be emailed at roxclmd@deped.gov.ph on or before April 2.

8. Immediate and wide dissemination of this Memorandum is desired.
