DepED considers opening of classes on August 24


Education Secretary Leonor Briones, Tuesday, during the #LagingHanda virtual press briefing in PTV 4 announced that they planned to move the opening of classes from June to August 24 and closing will be on April 30 while the country continues to battle the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.


"Ang napili nating school opening date ay August 24," said Education Secretary Leonor Briones.

Secretary Briones said that this decision was based on their consultations with government officials and other stakeholders.



Briones also said that all school and national events which are crowd drawers not limited to Brigada Eskwela, Palarong Pambansa, Festival of Talents,Science Fairs, Job fairs, Campus Journalism will be cancelled.

The secretary added that public school teachers need to start rendering services starting June 1 either physically or virtually to undergo capacity building of new lessons and to familiarize themselves on the use of different platforms, DepEd Commons and new programs.

The content of curriculum will be simplified to so called essential learning competencies and strategies of teaching need to change and be adjusted to what is considered as the New Normal.
