Duterte declares state of public health emergency due to Covid-19

President Rodrigo Duterte on March 7 has declared a state of public health emergency in the country, due to increasing number of confirmed cases of local transmission of the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19), two have been classified as local transmission.

Duterte made the decision upon the recommendation of the Department of Health (DOH) due to the COVID-19 alert level to Code Red sub-level one. to protect Filipinos.

COVID-19 Alert System to Code Red – Sub-level 1 means that there is anticipation of “possible sustained community transmission” of the disease.

“Pursuant to the recommendation of the DOH and my suggestion as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, President Rodrigo Duterte has agreed to issue a declaration of a State of Public Health Emergency due to the confirmation of local transmission of Covid-19 in our country,” Go said in press conference.

“This declaration (of state of public health emergency) is a signal to all concerned agencies, local government units, and health care providers to be ready to implement planned response measures," MalacaƱang said.

MalacaƱang signed the proclamation on March 9.
