Lawmakers file bill upgrading salary of Teacher 1 to SG 15

Lawmakers filed House Bill No. 5990 seeking to upgrade the minimum salaries of public school teachers, teaching personnel in higher education and of non-teaching personnel.

HB No. 5990 seeks to upgrade the minimum salaries of public school teachers to Salary Grade 15 for Teacher I, Salary Grade 16 for teacher personnel in higher education and P16, 000 for non-teaching personnel.

HB No. 5990 was introduced by ACT Teachers Party-List rep. France L. Castro, Bayan Muna Party-List Rep. Carlos Isagani T. Zarate, Rep. Ferdinand Gaite and Rep. Eufemia C. Cullamat, Gabriela Women's Party Rep. Arlene D. Brosas, and Kabataan Party-List Rep. Sarah Jane I. Elago.

The bill was filed during the Eighteenth Congress, First Regular Session on January 22, 2020.

Castro also filed House Bill 5991, which aims to increase the Personnel Economic Relief Allowance (PERA) of government employees from P2,000 to P5,000.

"PERA is a monthly compensation to all government employees, whether paid on salary, wages, or base pay basis across all agencies. This is considered a supplement to the basic compensation of government employees due to the rising cost of living," Castro said.
