Deped official reminds schools not to close the gates for late comers

"Don't close the gates for students who are late comers"

Dr. Thelma Cabadsan - Quitalig, Schools Division Superintendent of Calbayog City reminded schools under her administration not to close the gates for students who are late comers.

"Don't close the gates for students who are late comers," she said.

She advised not to punish the late students by not not letting them in.

" Don't punish them by not letting them in," she said.

"Know their situation. Some of them take a long walk to school and some don't even have enough food to eat. Be thankful they came," the SDS added.

Dr. Thelma Cabadsan, when you were studying elementary and high school then how did your teachers dealt with the attendance and punctuality of students? I don't know how you understand the principle of 'Understanding the Learners". Does this mean you will give in to whatever the learner will do? If the learner comes to school every 2nd period everyday, does this mean OK to you?

Let me just ask, when was the last time you were in a classroom either teaching or just observing the whole class the whole day?

How do you differentiate punishment from disciplining? Have you forgotten that the first and effective way of teaching someone is through stimulus and response? Would that mean that stimulating them to enter to school even if it is very late would help them love schooling? Would this be a positive way to get a good response from them?
