10K salary hike for teachers this SONA 2019

The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) led by Benjo Basas, TDC National Chairperson, has formalized its appeal to the President Rodrigo Duterte to fulfill his promise to raise the pay of the country’s public school teachers.

TDC has formalized its appeal to the president to act on his promise to raise the pay of the public school teachers few days before President Duterte will deliver his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA).

TDC sent a a letter to Malacañang on July 12 reminding the President of his promise more than three years ago, seeking for an additional P10,000 salary hike for public school teachers.

“We were truly grateful with your promise that you will work for the realization of this bill,” Basas said.

“This SSL-3 has perpetuated the poor status of our teachers and pegged our salaries in Salary Grade 11, the lowest among the government professionals. Until recently, teachers suffered low pay because of the extension of this SSL thru EO 201 which gave us a four-tranche increase of a little over P500.00 since year 2016. We believe that the scheme under SSL is unjust and discriminatory,” appealed by the group through the letter.

TDC, along with other groups, will again join the SONA activities on Monday to dramatize their situation and reiterate their demands for the improvement of alaries and benefits, for better working conditions and meaningful reforms in the field of education
