6:00 AM to 9:30 AM classes proposed to counter Super El Niño heat

Classes strictly from 6:00 AM to 9:30 AM are being proposed as the new school schedule to help students completely avoid the dangerous heat levels expected between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM due to Super El Niño.

According to the recommendation of the Climate Change Commission (CCC), this early-morning shift aims to drastically reduce students' exposure to intense sunlight. The overarching goal is to ensure the safety and welfare of the learners so that they do not struggle with their studies during the extreme weather conditions.

In response to the proposal, Malacañang assured the public that it will coordinate with the Department of Education (DepEd) to review the possible adjustment in class hours.

Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro stated that she has yet to receive DepEd's official position on the matter. Castro noted that she still needs to consult with DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara to determine if the education department will adopt the CCC's recommendation.

However, Castro emphasized that various government agencies have already begun their respective preparations and contingency plans to address the broader impacts of the severe drought and extreme heat across the country.
