DepEd personnel 2023 PBB approved at 52% of basic monthly salary

Big news for our dedicated educators and DepEd personnel! The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Department of Education (DepEd Philippines) have jointly announced the long-awaited approval and upcoming release of the 2023 Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) for all qualified teaching and non-teaching staff.

A Testament to Hard Work and Nation-Building

This significant announcement is a direct recognition of the vital role teachers and education personnel play in shaping the future of the nation. The approval came after the endorsement of DepEd's eligibility by the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Harmonization of National Gov’t Performance Monitoring, Information, and Reporting Systems (AO25 Task Force).

With the strong backing of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos Jr., the AO25 Technical Working Group (TWG) endorsed DepEd’s eligibility appeal for the 2023 PBB.

Highest PBB Rate Yet: 52% of Monthly Basic Salary!

The DBM confirmed that DepEd personnel met the eligibility criteria with an outstanding total score of 80 points in the assessment. This impressive achievement qualifies the department for the highest PBB rate possible: 52% of the monthly basic salary!

This marks a considerable improvement from previous years:

* 2021: 45.5%
* 2022: 48.75%
* 2023: 52%

To put this in perspective, a Teacher I with a monthly salary of \text{P}27,000 (salary grade 11) is expected to receive approximately \text{P}14,040 in PBB for FY 2023.

Commitment to Recognize and Reward

Budget Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman highlighted the importance of this release: "The approval of the 2023 PBB for DepEd workforce reflects our shared commitment to recognize the hard work and vital contributions of our educators to national development. With the strong support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., we are ensuring that performance and dedication are rewarded accordingly."

DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara echoed this sentiment, expressing deep appreciation: “Our teachers and education personnel are the backbone of our nation’s future. This bonus is a testament to their unwavering dedication. We thank our partners in government for their continued support in uplifting the teaching profession.”

Prompt Release and Broader Reforms

The DBM is now coordinating with DepEd to issue the necessary Special Allotment Release Orders and Notices of Cash Allocation to facilitate the prompt disbursement of bonuses. Regional and division offices will be notified immediately once the funds are ready for release.

This announcement, coming right as the country concludes the annual National Teachers’ Month, further underscores the administration’s focus on strengthening teacher support systems.

In a separate message, Sec. Pangandaman reiterated the administration’s broader commitment to improving teacher welfare beyond the PBB, including:

* Opening thousands of new teaching and non-teaching positions to ease workload.
* Doubling the teaching allowance.
* Creating clearer, fairer career paths so that "no teacher will retire as Teacher I."
* Providing every teacher with a medical allowance.

“We promise to keep listening, keep finding ways to do more, give more, and keep fighting for an education system that truly cares for those who nurture our children,” Sec. Pangandaman assured.

Both departments have reaffirmed their joint commitment to fulfilling President Marcos’ directive to enhance the dignity and welfare of teachers, recognizing them not just as educators, but as true nation-builders.
