Modified Electronic Class Record (ECR) for the Strengthened SHS Curriculum

Modified Electronic Class Record (ECR) for the Strengthened SHS Curriculum

The Department of Education's strengthened Senior High School (SHS) curriculum is here, and while we eagerly await the official E-Class Record (ECR) templates, many teachers are looking for a way to manage their class data now. The curriculum's new structure—with fewer core subjects and different elective categories—means the old ECRs just won't work.

Teachers need a solution that can accurately compute grades for the new curriculum without manual, time-consuming adjustments. Fortunately, many educators are creating and sharing their own modified ECRs.

Why a Modified ECR is Essential Right Now

The shift to the strengthened SHS curriculum has changed everything. Key updates include:
Fewer Core Subjects: The number of core subjects has been reduced from 15 to 5.
New Subject Categories: Subjects are now grouped into Core Subjects, Academic Electives, and TechPro (TVL) Electives.
Increased Work Immersion Hours: The amount of time for work immersion has nearly doubled, which will also affect grading.

Because of these changes, the previous ECR templates, designed for the old curriculum and DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015, are no longer fully aligned with the new structure. A modified ECR is a practical, immediate solution to bridge this gap.

What to Look for in a Modified ECR
A good modified ECR is more than just a simple spreadsheet. The best versions are typically Excel or Google Sheets files with the following features:

Dynamic Formulas:They use formulas to automatically calculate weighted scores and final grades based on the new curriculum guidelines.
Organized Structure: They have separate tabs or sheets for each subject to keep your data organized and easy to navigate.
Customizable Columns: They include columns for the different types of assessments required by the new curriculum.
Automated Summaries: A dashboard or summary page automatically pulls data from each subject sheet to give you a quick overview of your class's performance.

Where to Find and Download ECRs

Many teachers share their modified ECR templates online to help their colleagues. A popular resource for these materials is DepEd Tambayan While this is not the official website of the Department of Education, it's a well-known platform where teachers can find and download a wide range of educational resources.

DISCLAIMER: Since these templates are not officially released by DepEd, always use them as a temporary tool. Once the official ECRs for the strengthened SHS curriculum are released, you should switch to them to ensure full compliance with the department's standards. Before using any unofficial template, double-check that its formulas and calculations align with the latest DepEd orders and memoranda.
