The New and Improved MAPEH Curriculum: Addressing Learning Gaps and Promoting Holistic Education
The Department of Education (DepEd) identified weaknesses in the MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health) curriculum. Many learning objectives lacked proper structure, used inconsistent language, or were simply redundant across grades. Additionally, some skills assumed prior knowledge that students may not have received.
To address these issues and better equip teachers, DepEd revised the curriculum. The Physical Education and Health (PE & Health) program aims to develop students' physical and health literacy through engaging activities. This will promote lifelong healthy habits and equip them to manage their well-being in a changing world.
The revised curriculum ensures learners acquire the knowledge, skills, and mindset to participate actively in physical activities throughout their lives. It integrates cognitive, physical, and emotional aspects of learning to optimize overall health.
The department also emphasizes the importance of Music and Arts in education. Through creating art, students will gain a deeper understanding of their culture and history. This fosters critical thinking and appreciation for diverse artistic expressions.
The overall goal of the improved MAPEH curriculum is to provide a well-rounded learning experience that equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the 21st century.
