Adjusted Number of Class Days Per Month for School Year 2023-2024

The Department of Education (DepEd) has confirmed plans to revert to the old school calendar for the 2024-2025 school year. This decision is part of a gradual process, with the school year starting on July 29, 2024, and ending on March 31, 2025. This change aims to align with pre-pandemic schedules and avoid the extreme heat during summer months, ensuring a better learning environment for students and teachers.

The end date for the current school year 2023-2024 has been adjusted to May 31, 2024. This change aims to align with pre-pandemic schedules and avoid the extreme heat during summer months, ensuring a better learning environment for students and teachers.

Other calendar activities, such as the National Learning Camp and Brigada Eskwela, will also be adjusted accordingly.

DepEd is also considering conducting classes on certain Saturdays, still subject to consultation with parents, teachers and students “to cover some competencies that might not be covered with the reduction of the school year.”

Education Secretary and Vice President Sara Duterte signed DepEd Order No. 3, series of 2024, to formalize this amendment. The new calendar is designed to improve educational experiences by providing a more conducive learning environment during cooler months. This shift aims to balance students' and teachers' vacation periods, ensuring minimal disruption to their schedules.

The breakdown of adjusted class days for SY 2023-2024 is as follows:

- August - 3
- September - 21
- October - 22
- November - 19
- December - 10
- January - 21
- February - 21
- March - 19
- April - 21
- May - 22
Total = 179

In total, the school year 2023-2024 comprises 179 class days.
