DepEd Emphasizes no solicitation in Brigada Eskwela 2023-2024

Compliance with the Absolute Prohibition on Solicitation in Brigada Eskwela: DepEd Releases Guidelines for Brigada Eskwela Implementation in SY 2023-2024

The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued the guidelines for the implementation of Brigada Eskwela for the upcoming school year 2023-2024. Among the essential provisions highlighted in the guidelines is the strict prohibition on collecting any form of contribution, including Brigada Eskwela fees, from parents, legal guardians, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders.

"School heads, teachers, and other school personnel are strictly prohibited from soliciting or collecting any form of contribution including but not limited to Brigada Eskwela fees from parents or legal guardians, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders. The Brigada Eskwela activities shall focus on voluntary work and participation to ensure that schools are adequately prepared for the upcoming school year," the DepEd Order stated.

The Brigada Eskwela activities are designed to rely solely on voluntary work and participation to ensure that schools are adequately prepared for the new academic year. The focus on voluntary contributions aims to promote community involvement and collaboration, fostering a sense of shared responsibility in maintaining and enhancing the school's physical facilities and learning environment.

Through this prohibition, DepEd aims to create an inclusive and equitable learning environment, allowing all students and their families to contribute based on their willingness and capacity, rather than being burdened with additional financial obligations. The move also seeks to promote transparency and fairness in school operations, encouraging schools to seek voluntary resources and support from various stakeholders.

While solicitation for contributions has been strictly prohibited, the guidelines underscore the importance of conducting extensive public awareness campaigns to encourage community engagement in Brigada Eskwela. Schools are encouraged to disseminate advocacy materials and conduct awareness campaigns to garner support from parents, learners, community members, and external stakeholders who may voluntarily contribute their time, skills, and resources to enhance the school's facilities.

The Brigada Eskwela Working Committees, led by School Heads/Principals, play a pivotal role in mobilizing voluntary resources, identifying potential partners, and ensuring effective program implementation. These committees, comprising teachers, non-teaching personnel, parents, and community members, are expected to work together voluntarily to create a conducive learning environment for the students.

Through this proactive approach and adherence to the strict prohibition on collecting contributions, DepEd aims to foster a sense of shared responsibility for the well-being of the educational community, promoting inclusivity and active participation in the improvement of school facilities and the overall learning experience for students. With these guidelines in place, schools across the country are gearing up for a successful Brigada Eskwela for the upcoming academic year.
