DepEd to roll-out new K to 10 Curriculum in SY 2024-2025
The Department of Education (DepEd) is aiming to introduce the new Kindergarten to Grade 10 (K to 10) curriculum in the School Year 2024-2025.
According to DepEd Undersecretary and Spokesperson Michael Poa, the Curriculum Guide (CG) for K to 10 has been released for public feedback.
The department is currently gathering comments and considering them to further refine the curriculum. The deadline for comments was extended until May 13 to ensure that all public input is taken into account. Once the comments are compiled, the revised K to 10 curriculum is planned to be implemented in SY 2024-2025.

One notable revision in the new curriculum is the removal of Mother Tongue as a standalone subject, which has received mixed reactions from education stakeholders. However, Poa clarified that Mother Tongue is still maintained as a medium of instruction, and comments from the public will guide the final decision on this matter.
In addition to the K to 10 curriculum, the Senior High School (SHS) Program for Grades 11 and 12 is undergoing a review. DepEd initiated the review in November and will draft the curriculum guide based on the findings, allowing for public comments and transparency. To facilitate the review process, a national Task Force for SHS has been established, which will gather data to inform discussions and proposals related to the SHS program.

DepEd is closely monitoring developments in basic education and the implementation of the K to 12 program, particularly in relation to SHS. The insights gained from the review will help identify challenges faced by SHS learners and provide valuable data when providing comments to the Senate or Lower House on the SHS program.
