Senator urges DepEd to declare early summer break due to COVID-19

"A 200% increase in a few days is alarming but not surprising. When are we going to act faster. Hasten the summer break now and call off classes now!!"

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri urged the Department of Education (DepEd) to declare an early summer break amid the rising cases of novel coronavirus infection in the country "to allow our kids to stay safe at home and to allow our schools to be disinfected."

Zubiri said DepEd should follow the move of foreign governments and schedule an early break for pupils and students to minimize the risk of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“There are only a few days left ’til the summer break, so we should ask DepEd to just order the early break, as what has been done to hundreds of millions of school kids all over the world to avoid contamination and spread,” the Senate leader said.

"Let's not be complacent. We have seen how the virus has completely terrorized other countries. Let us not wait for the same thing to happen to us before we spring to action," said Zubiri.

"A 200% increase in a few days is Alarming but not surprising. When are we going to act faster. Hasten the summer break now and call off classes now!!" said Zubiri in his tweet.
