Gov't offers P5,000 assistance to displaced workers

A P5,000 financial assistance will be given to private workers affected by the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon amid the coronavirus disease or COVID-19 outbreak, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said on Tuesday.

According to DOLE's Department Order, small establishments such as sari-sari stores, mini groceries, and barbershops may apply to the program on behalf of their workers. while government workers are disqualified.



The P5K assistance, known as COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP), will be coursed through their employers who would need to apply to the program.

Under the CAMP, each private worker will receive ₱5,000 in cash to be processed through the companies' payroll system. The agency said 250,000 workers are expected to benefit from the program, which will prioritize those who work in small businesses and micro enterprises.

After application, the assistance benefit will be credited "directly" to employee accounts "within two weeks," said DOLE said in its Department Order 209.
