Increase of PERA of gov't workers from 2K to 5K pushed

A wage hike and increase in benefits may be around the corner for government workers and public school teachers. Thanks to a recently filed House Bill 2027 by Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy. Partylist, BH - Bagong Henerasyon) to increase their monthly minimum salaries.



Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy filed House Bill 2027 AN ACT INCREASING THE MINIMUM SALARIES OF PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS AND OTHER GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES AND AUGMENTING THE PERSONNEL ECONOMIC RELIEF ALLOWANCE. 

HB 2027 seeks to increase the minimum salaries and Personnel Economic Relief Allowance (PERA) granted to all government employees from 2,000 to P5,000 in cash for government employees.. The PERA shall then be referred to as the Augmented Personnel Economic Relief Allowance (APERA).


The Personnel Economic Relief Allowance (PERA) is given to all government employees on top of their monthly salary. 

PERA is given at Two Thousand Pesos (P2,000) per month to supplement pay due to the rising cost of living per DBM Budget Circular No. 2009-3 entitled Rules and Regulations on the Grant of the Personnel. Economic Relief Allowance. 
PERA was first granted to government employees in 1991 in the amount of P500 per month.

"An increase in the PERA will offer government personnel more substantial relief from erosion of purchasing power of public secto salaries and wages. For this purpose this bill proposes that the PERA be increase to P5,000." said bill.

The lawmaker explained that despite the Salary Standardization Law, government employees, especially those at the entry-level, are still not receiving enough.
