Palace declares September 3 as national holiday


President Rodrigo Duterte has declared September 3 as special working public holiday throughout the country to commemorate the surrender of Japanese Military Forces led by Army General Tomoyuki Yamashita at the end of World War II.




Republic Act 11216, which makes the holiday official, was one of the 20 bills signed by Duterte on February.
General Tomoyuki Yamashita leading the Japanese Military Forces surrendered to the Allied Forces at Keangan, Luzon, Philippines on September, 1945.

Yamashita was hanged the following year in Los Baños after being sentenced by an American military tribunal.
Also signed by Duterte was Republic Act (RA) 11120 declaring September 2 of every year a special non-working. CONTINUE READING
