Duterte signs Student Fare Discount Law

President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law the bill institutionalizing 20% transportation discounts for students from Monday to Sunday, including weekends and holidays, on all forms of land, sea, and air transportation.

The president has signed Republic Act 11314 or the “Student Fare Discount Act” on April 17 but was released only to the media on Monday.

The new law institutionalizes the grant of 20 percent fare discounts to students on all land, air and water transportation, even during weekends and holidays.

This law grants all Filipino students – from elementary to college, as well as those enrolled in technical-vocational schools – 20 percent student fare discounts from Monday to Sunday, including weekends and holidays, for all modes of transportation such as jeepneys, buses, trains, taxis, ships and aircrafts, tricycle, transport network vehicle services (TNVS), MRT, LRT, as well as airline and passenger ships even during holidays.

Those enrolled in short-term courses of seminar type, like driving, swimming, music lessons, and driving schools, and post-graduate studies - those taking up medicine, law, masteral, doctoral degrees and the like are excluded in the said law.
