PISA data reveals lower performance among children who speak English at home

The Department of Education (DepEd) reported that in the latest findings from the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), it has been revealed that children who primarily speak English at home have shown lower academic performance in PISA.

Usec. Gina Gonong said that data from the PISA, revealed that learners who mostly speak English at home have lower performance than those who do not.

"Ang sinasabii doon sa PISA, iyong mga batang nagsasalita mostly ng English sa bahay ay mas mababa ang performance nila sa PISA," said Gonong.

Gonong, however, said that the data needs to be interrogated further because the findings were based only on data  from the years 2018 and 2022.

The PISA is an international study of the educational performances of its member nations. In December 2023, it said that it determined that the Philippines lagged in reading, science and math.
