Teachers to provide remediation to learners with grades below 75

Under the Department of Education (DepEd) Learning Recovery and Continuity Plan (LRCP), teachers must follow the rules in DepEd Order No. 8 s. 2015, which says that if a student gets a grade below 75, they must be given remediation or extra lessons.

"Teachers shall adhere to the stipulations under DO No. 8, s. 2015 (Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the K to 12 Basic Education Program), which requires the provision of intervention through remediation or extra lessons to learners who receive a grade below 75. To ensure that teachers perform this task, they must be spared of any administrative and finance-related tasks, particularly in schools where qualified non-teaching personnel can be designated to perform such roles." DO No. 8 s2015 states, "When a learner's raw scores are consistently below expectations in Written Work and Performance Tasks the learner's parents or guardians must be informed not later than the fifth week of that quarter. This will enable them to help and guide their child to improve and prepare for the Quarterly Assessment. A learner who receives a grade below 75 in any subject in a quarter must be given intervention through remediation and extra lessons from the teacher/s of that subject."

The DO 34 s 2022 said that "the Regional Offices are highly encouraged to implement a contextualized set of strategies and interventions as part of the Learning Recovery and Continuity Plan which shall focus on three key areas: a. learning remediation and intervention; b. socio-emotional functioning, mental health, and well-being; and c. professional development of teachers."

"The key outcome of the Department's recovery planning and success is ensuring that learning gaps are identified and addressed among all learners, especially the most vulnerable ones," the DO stated.
