Suggested Activities For Teachers And Learners During First Week of SY 2022-2023
According to DepEd Order No. 34, s.2022, dated July 11, 2022, entitled School Calendar and Activities for the School Year 2022-2023, "providing psychosocial support during the first week of the school year is imperative in promoting, protecting, and prioritizing the learners' socio-emotional well-being, and developing their coping skills" for the transition to 5 days in-person classes.
Also, in Enclosure 2 of DepEd Order No. 34, s.2022 or the Monthly Calendar of Activities for School Year 2022-2023, the conduct of Psychosocial Support Activities was scheduled for August 22-26, 2022.
Accordingly, classroom advisers or designated teachers shall facilitate these activities for at least one (1) hour for one (1) week or until the learners are well-adjusted in the school community.
SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES FOR TEACHERS AND LEARNERS DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF SY 2022-2023
DAY 1:
- Getting to know each other. Meet and greet the learners with a smile and a warm welcome. Tell learners a little about yourself. Inform students of policies and guidelines. Talk about the rules and procedures in the classroom.
- Provide an opportunity for students to introduce themselves. Each student may speak briefly (1-2 minutes maximum) about themselves
- Involve learners in get-acquainted games, observing required health and safety protocols.
- Provide students with basic information about the curriculum. Show leamers the books they'll be using and the subjects they'll be studying. Also, show leamers some modules they'll be accomplishing (show them the parts). Consider sharing information about learning competencies, contents, types of assessments, and grading policies
- Orient leamers on how to use the modules and video lessons. Let learners write something to have their writing specimen.
- For Kinder and Grade 1, possibly have a campus tour observing health protocols.
DAY 2:
- Conduct Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Programs for Learners.
- Distribution of books/modules to learners/parents.
DAY 3:
- Conduct Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Programs for Learners.
- Administration of Oral Reading Test (to identify the Reading Level of a new set of learners in the grade).
- Identification of Nutritional Status of Leamers.
DAYS 4-5:
- Conduct Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Programs for Learners.
- Diagnostic Test - Quarter 1
(Diagnostic Testing is a form of assessment that occurs before instruction begins. The purpose of administering diagnostic tests is to determine what students already know about the concepts and skills to be covered by instruction. A diagnostic test is not graded.)
