Teachers not required to report to school after June 24

A member asked a question: Magrereport pa po ba tayo sa school sa Monday (June 24)?

(A member asked a question: Do we still report to school on Monday (June 24)?

Me: Hindi po dapat tinatanong 'yan. Hintayin niyo lang po kung may sasabihin ang principal niyo po.

(Admin: That shouldn't be asked. Just wait for your principal to say something.)

Kadalasan, kahit alam naman natin ang sagot ay nagtatanong pa kasi tayo at kapag hindi nagustuhan ang sagot saka tayo nag-oover react.

(Often, even though we know the answer, we are still asking questions, and when we don't like the answer, we overreact.)

(What is legal:
After June 24 (end of school year for schools without health break), teachers are no longer required to report to school on official time to render service. Classroom teachers will no longer be paid from this day until the first day of school next school year.)

Read: Guidelines on Proportional Vacation Pay

Proportional Vacation Pay (PVP) refers to compensation of teaching personnel during Christmas and summer vacation computed in proportion to the number of days they have served during the school year. The compensation that the teachers are receiving during school breaks or vacation are called PVP. They are not salaries, they are considered as benefits earned.

If there are reports that are not completed after June 24, they can be accomplished at home and submit online or to school in the most convenient time.

However, TEACHERS MAY STILL BE REQUIRED to report and render services on days without classes in the exigency of public service. Equivalent vacation service credits, in accordance with DepEd Order No. 53, s. 2003, shall be given to teachers required to report for work.

“Exigency of public service” refers to “a situation where service is urgently needed, and where any delay in its execution and delivery will adversely affect the outcome of the service to clients and its effective and efficient delivery.”

In such cases,  requests to require the attendance of public school teachers during vacation must satisfy the following conditions:
1) A letter-request is submittedtheir school head to his/her respective SDO;
2) Sufficient justification is provided to establish that exigency of public service exists; and
3) The request is duly approved by the Schools Division Superintendent (SDS).
